Resolved: Microsoft 365 Email Delays
Last update: Aug 12, 2025, 6:22 PM CDT
Microsoft has confirmed a regional issue in Exchange Online today that caused some inbound and outbound emails to be delayed by over an hour. The incident affected a subset of users in North America from 8:00 AM to 5:15 PM CDT and is now resolved. All queued messages have been delivered.
Impact
- Affected a subset of users in the North America region.
- Some inbound and outbound messages were delayed by over an hour.
- Messages were queued before eventual delivery.
Preliminary Root Cause
Some requests that facilitate message sending and delivery were timing out due to a change in Microsoft’s Enterprise Configuration Service. This caused messages to queue and resulted in delays. Microsoft has rolled back the change.
Next Steps
- Microsoft will provide a preliminary Post-Incident Report within two business days and a final report within five business days.
- We temporarily disabled the automatic email signature system to keep mail flowing without delays. This will be re-enabled once stability is confirmed with our provider.
- No action is required from users. If you cannot find an expected email, check all folders, including Junk and Other.
